The HART membership year follows the public school calendar, so we are about to put this year to rest. New officers will be installed at our general meeting May 12, and there are lots of opportunities to join a committee and get involved. We are still contacting our legislators and pushing for a COLA and stipend to offset years of inflation and no increase in retired teacher pension payments.We are still contributing to the community with our Books for Children project, volunteering at Kids' Meals every Wednesday, raising money for the Kate Bell Assistance Fund at Stilwell Retirement Community in Waco, and giving scholarships to aspiring young teachers at local universities. May 13 we will sponsor our last food drive at the parking lot of the Bellaire United Methodist Church from 9:00 AM to 11:30 AM. NOW IS A GREAT TIME TO JOIN HART AND TRTA.
