Every year that the Texas Legislature convenes, members of TRTA travel to Austin to meet with our elected representatives and tell them what we want for retired public school educators. This year, we will arrive in our red shirts, thanking our senators and representatives for their support last session, and advocating for the benefit enhancements deserved by all retired public school personnel.
Please join us in Austin on Wednesday, March 26, at the Texas Capitol. We encourage everyone to schedule visits with their representative and senator, to attend the House special session at 9:30 a.m. or the Senate special session at 10:30 a.m., and to meet on the east lawn for a free boxed lunch and ice cream provided by TRTA. If you can, go by Dan Patrick's office because he always gives out free apples.
This day is important for two reasons. First, these people are elected by us and need to see us and hear what we think about decisions that affect our lives. Second, we need to make a strong case for the needs of retired teachers to promote the professionalism of teaching and the respect that all teachers, active and retired, deserve.
Find out more and register to attend (not necessary but helpful for planning lunches) at https://trta.org/dac2025/. If you need help with transportation to Austin email hartteachers2024@gmail.com.
